Sligo comes alive on Thursday with the start of the Lissadell Fringe Festival which is running from July 29th to August 3rd. This major festival which is being produced by FergusonEvents, in conjunction with Marketing Forum Sligo will compliment the Westlife concert on Friday 30th July and the two Leonard Cohen concerts on Saturday 31st July and Sunday the 1st August. The beauty of the fringe is that it is all FREE, funded and supported by Sligo Leader Partnership, Sligo Borough Council, Failte Ireland, and the participating venues.
Over 30 venues have come together to put on 70 gigs. The Lissadell Fringe Festival will ensure that both festival goers and promoters alike, together with the local community will enjoy local hospitality, so now is the time to experience Sligo at its best. The many fringe events will have the whole town buzzing and will showcase the wealth of musical talent Sligo has to offer, this will be complimented by a host visiting artists.
Sligo is throwing one big party over the weekend. The party is for everyone, young and old, and has myriad events to suit all ages and musical preferences. Everyone can experience the best that Sligo has to offer, the best music, the best food, the best shopping, the best atmosphere and most of all the best of craic.
Sligo is ready for this World Class Event and secondly we intend to enjoy it. Whether your preference is a small intimate and relaxing gig in a café or a lively pub session, it’s all there. Equally so you can dance your socks ‘til the wee small hours. All venues have a late licence for the weekend. So if you are going to Lissadell you can catch a gig before you head out and return to town for a lot more gigs or a late night supper.
There is a great family day street party planned for O’Connell Street on Saturday 31st from 2pm to 5.30pm. All the kids can come along and participate in any or all of the free workshops during the afternoon and they will be given a costume to participate in the carnival parade. Equally so you can come along in your own costume and just join in. It’s guaranteed to be lots of fun.
Whether your preference is traditional, folk, rock, jazz, country blues, funky, disco we have it all. Just pick up a brochure in any of the hotels, restaurants, pubs, clubs, cafes or the Tourist Information Office (GHQ O’ Connell Street) and you will be spoiled for choice.
To compliment all this we have the French Market on Rockwood Parade for the Parisian experience. All you have to do is turn up and have the time of your life. www.sligotourism.ie
