On Friday 24th May, McGarrigles (O’Connell St, Sligo) plays host to a very special night dedicated to raising money for The Children’s Medical & Research Foundation, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin in Dublin. The contributions received on the night will go towards the foundation that provides the outstanding paediatric care and also the research needed to help our nation’s sick children. The Foundation has continued to grow and evolve by raising funds for capital projects, state of the art medical equipment, research programmes and further education investing largely through your generous support.
On the bill for the night there is some great talent lined up, local legends ‘This Side Up’ will be taking the stage. This Side Up are an all original Hip Hop group hailing from the Badlands of Sligo. The group consists of two mc’s Myster-E and Shaool with DJ Noone on the turntables. All about “Keeping it Rural” This Side Up meld intelligent lyricism with booming melodic beats in a unique homegrown fashion. The lads have been on the scene and gigging heavily since 2009 and have created a storm in venues all around the country and have played festival such as Electric Picnic, Sea Sessions, Temple House and Sligo Live.
Also performing on the night are the Amazing Led Zeppelin tribute act ‘The Rubber Plants’. The lads formed in the late 90’s have been gigging intensively recreating that unique Zeppelin sound. Based in Northern Ireland they constantly tour all around Ireland and the UK. They are a tight, professional tribute band, whose dynamic set has been distilled into an exciting mixture of power and innovation.
The night will also have recently formed act Nigel Robinson and Mark Conway as well as a raffle with some great prizes from Lough Key Forest Park’s ‘Zip It’, Cairde Arts Festival gig tickets, Bernie’s Beauty Salon, Wayne Connor and Ian Carty Ceramics.
