To experience a particular place consistently, to know it through seasons, through years, through a substantial portion of a life, one cannot but absorb a sense of one’s surroundings into ones being. It is invariably a personal journey, where the physical landscape forms the backdrop to ones daily life, where a steady trickle of physical and emotional memories over time develop into a visual and mental file, a composite of imagery and experience; the personal documents and snapshots of a place and time.
Whilst noting geographical elements, Leonora’s work is mostly concerned with the emotional and atmospheric planes of landscape.
Originally from Roscommon, Leonora graduated from The University of Ulster with an honours degree in Visual Communication, one year of which was spent studying at the Instituto Superiore per le Industrie Artistiche in Urbino, Italy. She has participated in many group shows, and has held five solo exhibitions since 2007. Her work has featured in both the RUA and RHA Annual Exhibitions.
Based in north county Sligo, Leonora’s work is mostly landscape-based, and deeply saturated in her surrounding environs of dense woodlands and gentle coastline. Striving to combine a sense of this physical geography with a deeper sense of their mood and atmosphere, the work is notably evocative and ethereal.
