Hawk’s Well launches Kids Club with busy Children’s Programme

Continuing its commitment to programming great theatre and music for children in Sligo and the North West, the Hawk’s Well Theatre is launching a Kids’ Club to keep parents up to date with all the latest shows coming to the theatre to suit their children’s age-group. Families who join the Kids’ Club will receive a membership card which they get stamped at the Hawk’s Well every time they attend a children’s show. Once the card is full, children will get a goody bag from the theatre.

There are many fantastic children’s shows coming up at the Hawk’s Well in March. The second ever Children’s Book Festival will take over Sligo from the 6th to the 8th of March and the Hawk’s Well Theatre will be transformed into a book-worm’s paradise! Three of Ireland’s favourite authors Oisín McGann, Celine Kiernan and Sarah Webb will visit on Friday the 7th of March with a special show for school children at 10.30am .‘We Love Books’  celebrates books as these authors take a closer look at the books that inspired their love of writing. There will also be an opportunity for young readers to ask plenty of questions and get a book signed after the show while Liber will be on hand with a pop-up book shop.

On Saturday the 8th  Anything Goes take to the stage of the Hawk’s Well in a very special Mini-Proms concert  called Book Toons at 3.30pm This very special show celebrates the wonder of books and music. Dave, Eddie, Kieran, Sinead and Tonto will perform a selection of family favourites such as the Bare Necessities from The Jungle BookSomewhere over the Rainbow, (The Wizard of Oz), Someday My Prince will Come (Snow White) and Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid). A wonderful event for all the family!

On Sunday 9th of March Theatre Lovett will perform their hilarious slapstick comedy for families ‘Mr. Foley, the Radio Operator’at 3pm. Join Louis Lovett as he conjures characters and chapters full of charm from Mr. Foley’s past. Theatre Lovett are one of Ireland’s most exciting companies for young and old alike. Schools performances take place on Monday 10th of March at 10am and 12pm.

Regular visitors to the Hawk’s Well The Speks return to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Their debut album recently won a prestigious Parents’ Choice music award in the US where their music has been described as ‘Riverdance for toddlers’ and ‘grown up music for kids.’ They perform their nursery rhymes and sing-along songs set to acoustic Irish music while encouraging kids to sing and dance along. This is a great, fun event for kids. Previous shows have sold out quickly so early booking is advised. The show takes place after the parade at 2pm.

Replay Theatre Company who performed a show for babies last year called ‘Babble’ return with a show for adventurers aged 4 to 8 years on Sunday 23rd of March at 1pm and 3pm called ‘A Boy and his Box.’ This show delights with live drawing, projection, several quirky tunes and some brilliantly ridiculous sound effects. But most of all, it celebrates the amazing world that is a child’s imagination and reminds grown-ups that an adventure can begin with the stroke of a pen.

The Hawk’s Well Mini-Proms series continues in April with the Whistleblast Quartet Family Classics Concert taking place on the 6th of April at 3.30pm. This is an exciting, informal and informative concert for all ages to inspire the interest of young people in a fun filled concert of Irish tunes, film themes, classical music and much more.

Two workshops will take place for older children over Easter. Create your own Comic Book workshop takes place from the 14thto the 26th of April from 12 to 2pm. In this exciting course Wayne O’Connor will guide participants through the creation of their own comic book. On Friday 25th of April a Stop Motion Workshop will take place from 10am to 3pm for 8 to 12 year olds. Experienced tutors will share tips and techniques on set building, filming, editing and creating sound scapes. Participants will create the set, storyboard and plan their stop motion movie and then film and produce it.

More great shows for children are currently being booked for the rest of the year and kids’ club members will be the first to know about them and will receive news by email and text reminders. Prices of children’s shows at the theatre are kept as low as possible with children’s shows such as the Speks for St. Patrick’s day costing €5 per ticket.
