Fionn Regan at The Model, Sligo, Saturday July 16th

Fionn Regan is a difficult man to pin down musically. Just two albums into an extremely promising career, this sublimely gifted singer-songwriter has already demonstrated a staggering lack of regard for following the rules.

Regan’s calling card was the beautiful Mercury-nominated The End Of History which included songs such as ‘Be good or be gone’ and ‘Put a penny in the slot’. Rather than follow it up with more of the same pastoral loveliness, he made The Shadow of an Empire, and with it didn’t so much flaunt convention, as trample all over it to produce a collection every bit as beguiling as its predecessor, but bursting with more ideas and sounds than some acts have in a lifetime. We await his next album due in early August with bated breath. In the meantime, be one of the first to hear some brand new material, and enjoy a special solo acoustic performance from one of the most mercurial musical talents around.

Don’t miss this unforgettable evening Saturday July 16th at 8pm.

Tickets €15 are available through www.themodel.ie or by calling 071 9141405

‘Regan can be sassy and scruffy, or quiveringly sincere, but he’s never uninteresting’ The Guardian

‘Likened to a young Bob Dylan by those lost for a better way to describe a talented singer-songwriter-His   material certainly stands up to the test’ Mail on Sunday

RSAG at The Model this Saturday

R.S.A.G (Rarely Seen Above Ground, aka Jeremy Hickey) is a multi-instrumentalist hailing from the Marble city who’s been making waves since 2008 with his explosive live set and a double album release; Organic Sampler. Gathering a coveted 5 stars from The Irish Times, Jim Carroll wrote:

“Hickey’s sense of scale and ambition is remarkable, and each track leaps out of its skin… His grooves are extraordinary, a heavyweight percussive storm conducted by the lightest and finest of touches… tunes that are compelling, dramatic and exciting..” – The Irish Times

Now back with his Leo Pearson (U2) produced follow up album Be It Right Or Wrong, R.S.A.G. is sure of another busy year in 2010. Responsible for one of the gigs of the year for The Model’s New Spaces for Music programme in 2009,
we’re delighted to have him back in the new venue for what promises to be another blistering, sold out show.

Tickets available from The Model on 071-914 1405 via tickets@modelart.ie or Buy Online

Beautiful Unit are back to brighten our October nights!

Beautiful Unit Return to Sligo

Following their taster Guerrilla gig on O’Connell Street for Culture Night Sligo, Beautiful Unit are back in Sligo in the Wolf on Arm (former Wolfe Tone Street Pharmacy) on Friday 16th October for a full performance which is guaranteed to brighten our October nights.

Helmed by guitarist Brian Mooney, Beautiful Unit released their debut album Erupean Son earlier this year. Mooney is a well-established musical magic man on the Irish scene having played with everyone from Jape, David Kitt and Si Schroeder and with his own band, The Idiots. Beautiful Unit explores the sonic possibilities of real time sound manipulation using 8 bit sampling, repetitive grooves and live music. The audio performance is accompanied by visuals designed by Hector Castelles.

“A sonic technique that oozes character and distinction, rhythms thumped out on toy drum sets, strums on borrowed banjo and music that thrums to, in the words of Mooney himself, “ The pulse of the static from the jack-to-jack” Our advice – Don’t let this one pass you by”

The Irish Times

In this autumnal release, Beautiful Unit explores the sonic possibilities of real time sound Manipulation using 8-bit sampling, repetitive grooves and live music. The release has been devised specifically for a once off tour of Ireland in October 2009 which sees a stop-off at The Model in Sligo.
