Stir It Up in Sligo this weekend

Stir It Up for Sligo

Stir It Up for Sligo

This coming weekend Sligo is hosting it’s first ever Reggae Festival in Tobergal Lane Café.

This two day festival has been co-ordinated by Visual Artist and DJ, Barra and the programme features some of Ireland’s best home grown Reggae, including acts such as M.C. Cian Finn from Intinn. Finn’s own songs and compositions are on the pulse of current national and international events and he has been hailed as “Ireland’s best kept secret”.. but the secret is out now.

Dub Investigation – original dub and roots heavyweights – who are sure to draw reggae fans from all over Ireland and the unmissable Professor Ruffchuff (Toby Eaton) vocalist and digi dub wizard from Cork’s dub electro band Wiggle.

Another festival highlight involves Fyahred and her fantastic eight piece band, The Italics, from Cork. This reggae band, led by women, transcends sweet vocals and harmonies backed by roots, rhythms and dancehall vibrations creating a delightful feast of sound.

The festival’s infectious and positive vibes will continue with the Revelation Sound System – one of Ireland’s very few true purpose built sound systems. The two brothers, Jeremiah & Benjamin play the sound system together with live instruments, combining Roots Rhythms from the earliest reggae recordings and marching dub anthems of the present day.

Stir it Up promises a truly dynamite weekend featuring MC Ross Rungus and various floor filling foot stomping DJ’s with visuals in the capable hands of VJ Present.

Doors open at 8pm and tickets cost €15 for day or €25 for weekend ticket Tickets can be bought at Tobergal Lane Café or Third Wave Music, 35 O’Connell Street 071-9147811

For credit card bookings and info call 071-946599.

McGarrigles Onfire with Adrian Crowley & Chequerboard

Adrian Crowley & Chequerboard, McGarrigles June 12th

Adrian Crowley & Chequerboard, McGarrigles June 12th

We are delighted to hear that Onfire are bringing the wonderful  Adrian Crowley and Chequerboard to Sligo for a very special gig this June.

Recently listed as No.8 in The Ticket’s ‘Best Irish Acts of Right Now’,  Adrian Crowley with full band will take to the stage of McGarrigles on June 12th.

“Season of the Sparks carries on thematically where the last four albums left off: with the beauty and force of nature (In Inter Cert English, we called it Pantheism). It’s all sparrows, bees, strange birds and dreaming horses. The elements have always been a good theme for Crowley: there’s a synergy between the pastoral lyrics of ‘The Beekeeper’s Wife’, ‘Liberty Stream’ or ‘Season of the Sparks’ and the natural flowing rhythm of the songs. He has always taken care to surround himself with a band capable of conjuring the elemental alchemy you associate with Palace or The Bad Seeds.”

On the night, Crowley will be joined by very special guest Chequerboard who has been describe as ‘A priceless rarity and something to treasure’ (*****5 stars)’ by the Ticket (The Irish TImes)

Doors 9pm// Adm €10
